February 2011

Faced with the task of choreographing a new work for an artistic gathering in November 2011, young Australian dancer Lee Serle sat in his New York loft, reflecting, daydreaming and seeking an inspiring idea. Before too long, an idea cristallized in the choreographer’s imagination – to show in movement what he was experiencing, the process of seeking inspiration for an artistic work. The result is Untitled, a work in progress.

Untitled “is not about anything at the moment – it is in the early stages, a small idea,” says Serle. “The image of waiting for an idea to come then became the idea.”

Serle and the other 2010 protégés will present their works when they gather at a gala and celebration of mentoring by Rolex in November. When not creating his own new works, Serle collaborates daily with his mentor Trisha Brown, learning movement phrases for her next dance creation.
