Luminous/Shadow

Mentor Saburo Teshigawara’s group piece with KARAS premiered in Tokyo in March 2001, before being revised and performed at the Aarhus Festival later that year

Speed/Stillness

Mentor Saburo Teshigawara. Motion is motionless. Stasis initiates fresh motion to emphasise the beauty of stillness

Cold/Warm

Mentor Saburo Teshigawara: “Minus 273°C …In chemistry when it’s that temperature, everything stops totally.”

Illusion/Reality

Luminous combines Teshigawara’s graceful choreography with technological ingenuity: figures move in and out of darkness, multiple reflections scatter around the stage, shadows are thrown against the wall

Silence/Noise

Absolute Zero in dance is an exploration by Teshigawara of the idea of perfect stillness and order in a chaotic world. The piece is rife with juxtapositions: movement, sound and stage pictures clashing in this voyage of discovery
