


From different continents, cultures and generations, both mentor and protégée make political yet beautiful music. Now Dina El Wedidi wants to learn how to reach the international stage, as her mentor, Gilberto Gil, did decades ago.

The mentor and protégé are both artists whose curiosity lead them beyond music composition, with a shared determination to create the art of the future.

Both artists were intrigued by the discovery of a totally new world of music and a deep commitment to a variety of causes. Both were rewarded by the other’s talent and passion.

"There are degrees of talent, but when you have a David Carpenter, that's unique... He has this wonderful sound," said Zukerman of his young protégé.

Susan Platts and Jessye Norman started out with points in common. By the end, they also had developed a strong friendship that continues well beyond the mentoring year.

Beyond his desire to succeed, it was Caballé-Domenech’s passion for music that caught Sir Colin’s eye. “He’s pretty wild. One should be wild when one is young.”
