Born in Togo, brought up in Gabon and now living in Senegal, he brings together his African heritage and European modernity. Sanouvi has overcome many obstacles, including initial scepticism from fellow villagers, to pursue a career as a dancer. In 1997, he began dancing professionally in Togo. He attended workshops such as the Ateliers du Monde in Montpellier, France (2001), and choreographer Germaine Acogny’s Ecole des Sables in Senegal (in 2002 and 2005).
August 2011 Combining contemporary Western dance with an African identity, Anani Dodji Sanouvi has created his own language of movement.
March 2009 Anani Dodji Sanouvi showcases a new work resulting from his experience as a Rolex protégé and his enhanced artistic awareness.
